SPIN XI — build your ultimate cricket XI
SPIN XI needs JavaScript to play. Here is what it is.
How the game works
You are dealt a real cricket squad from a real season — Mumbai 2019, Sydney
2016/17, Australia 2003 — and you draft one player from it. Then another squad,
and another, until you have eleven: four batters, a keeper, two all-rounders and
four bowlers. Then your XI plays a tournament, match by match, and you find out
whether the side you built holds up.
Four tournaments
A twenty-over league of fourteen games and a playoff; a fifty-over World Cup
of nine group games, a semi-final and a final; a seven-game Twenty20 World Cup;
and a Test Championship of twelve matches over two years, where draws count.
Where the numbers come from
42,165 player-seasons across 2,486 squads and 168 teams, from 2002 to 2026.
Every rating is computed from publicly published ball-by-ball records of matches
that were actually played — no rating is copied from anywhere and none is
invented. A batter's rating comes from what they scored, how quickly, and against
which attacks; the strength of each competition is worked out from the players who
appear in more than one of them.
Watching a match
Every match can be watched ball by ball: the score climbs, the strike rotates,
wickets fall and a chase counts down what is needed off how many. The scorecard
and the replay are the same innings, because one is read off the other.
